Republicans in Missouri have joined the birther craze. Democrats say the bill is a racist shot at President Obama, while Republicans deny the accusations.

It needs a second vote in the chamber before it can advance to the Senate…The legislation passed after an at-times heated debate that included charges of racism and repeated references to debunked allegations that President Barack Obama was not born in the United States.” GOP Rep. Lyle Rowland, the sponsor of the bill, denies that the bill has anything to do with President Obama, despite the racist demands from members of his party who have demanded and doubted the validity of his birth certificate since he ran for President in 2008. Despite releasing his long form birth certificate last year, many Republicans are still claiming that President Obama isn’t a real American. The birth certificate “would just provide us with the verifying evidence,” Rowland stated. “We’re not requiring a great deal. All we’re wanting is a copy of that for our records.”
