Mika Brzezinski: "A Lot Of Risky Behavior" Happens "To Be Connected To Birth Control"

On Thursday’s Morning Joe, Rick Santorum‘s comments about contraception came up for discussion. The show played clips of Santorum explaining his beliefs about the “dangers” of contraception, stating simply that it “is not okay.” Following up, Joe Scarborough asked Mika Brzezinski‘s opinion on the topic, deeming her, “more conservative, I think, than many,” on social issues.

Brzezinski sympathized with Santorum’s perspective “as a father, and a man who’s held public office.” She went on to say:

"It’s a conversation probably every family should have, about birth control and its role in society with their own kids. He’s got his own, and he stands by them, and I think he’s an interesting part of the national conversation in terms of where our society is going. And there is a lot of risky behavior out there that happens to be connected to birth control."

"It’s a conversation probably every family should have, about birth control and its role in society with their own kids. He’s got his own, and he stands by them, and I think he’s an interesting part of the national conversation in terms of where our society is going."

If it is up to every family, then he should just stay OUT of it. Does he really expect the people of the United States to vote for him? Our society is going to the toliet if the Tea Party continues with these asinine "hopefuls". This man does not believe in climate change, evolution, and totally ignores the small fact that we are already 7 billion humans stressing the planet.

Our next great wars are going to be about food and water, and he keeps questioning birth control. Third world countries always struggle with budgets to educate people about the BENEFITS of using birth control, and he is promotiong these stupid ideas that belong to the dark ages. We are turning into the laughing stock of the industrialized world.

This man has no idea about the economy; has really dangerous ideas and no clue about Iran, and all that he can talk about right now is regulating our sex lives. I guess by the looks of it he is not getting enough of it. We are seriously getting enough of him talking about it. Elections should come up every 6 years. They are turning into freak shows with the GOP.

views of “risky behavior” linked to birth control

What the hell is she talking about? Does she have some kind of source, data, reference for this asinine remark? Would I never have swung from that chandelier, had a lost weekend at a frat house or got involved in that gang bang if I wasn't on the Pill? Oh wait...I never did that. But if I did...guess what Mika and the rest of you uptight peeping Toms? It's none of your -pardon the pun - @!$%#ing business.

She's probably talking about the risk of STD's.

She's probably talking about the risk of STD's.

Then she should have said a lot of risky behavior linked to condom use. Which would have been dumber.

It's like contraception is a new technology or something to the pundits and swamis. This is a non-issue and is being foisted on voters as a controversial subject.

Sex is here to stay and can't be legislated by the bedroom police. TV is such a wasteland. Journalism is best done by journalists and not celebrities.

    Because if we outlaw contraception,

...only outlaws will have contraception, don'tcha know?

What does it say about our country that we want to outlaw contraception more readily than guns?

She really never has struck me as being all that bright.

You know Mika, the riskiest behavior is the kind that's connected with the lack of birth control.

    It's called unprotected sex.

That's true of SOOOO many public figures, though. Some take that notoriety and accomplish worthy things on top of it and others coast. I don't know, necessarily, that she is coasting.

Risky behavior is associated very closely with alcohol. Why isn't anyone talking about outlawing that???

If these idiots think someone is having sex only because she is on the pill, they are sadly mistaken. It just means I have a better chance of not supporting that decision for the next 18-75 years with my tax dollars.

The birth control is a ticket to have sex thought process is seriously flawed. We all have a ticket on the sex train birth control is there to keep us from spilling our drinks.

So where is this nonsense conceived? In that old fashioned thinking, having a kid in marriage is a blessing having a kid outside of marriage is punishment for your sin. News flash single(check that) single women parents aren't evil demons deserving of ridicule and scorn.

    Victorian times.

the good ole days, so true! what they fail to understand is that if modern BC was availible back then it would have been used.

I think she really just doesn't have the intellectual capacity to realize that condoms are associated with risky behavior, and not the other way around.

Which came first: the risky behavior, or the contraception?

    Republicans are dumb.

Actually, condoms reduce risky behavior. Unprotected sex is risky behavior. I don't think Mika is a repub, but in this case, she doesn't appear very intelligent.

Yes I understand condoms reduce the risk, my point is that condoms exist and contraception exist partially BECAUSE of risky behavior.

    Risky behavior cause condoms lol.

    Condoms don't cause risky behavior.

This is one of those situations, I think, where family and upbringing trump political conviction. Mika and her Dad are Polish. I'm only one generation more American than her and I can imagine, despite being very liberal politically, my Polish grandparents sharing her views with regards to the Catholic Church. In that respect, Poles are VERY conservative.

So, in conclusion, I don't think this came from hanging around Joe Scarborough.
