Rick Santorum Defends Komen... and Links Abortion to Cancer

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum sounded off on the Susan G. Komen for the Cure decision to cut off funds to Planned Parenthood for breast exams, which it reversed in part Friday.

"I don't believe breast cancer research is advanced by funding an organization that does abortions where you've seen ties to cancer and abortions," said a hoarse Santorum on "Fox News Sunday." In fact, a 2007 study published by the Archives of Internal Medicine studying 105,716 women found no link between breast cancer and abortions. Abortion services account for about three percent of Planned Parenthood's activities, while cancer screening and prevention accounts for 16 percent.

"So I don't think it's a particularly healthy way of contributing money to further the cause of breast cancer, but that's for private organizations like Susan G. Komen to make that decision," continued Santorum.

Doh!

Running out of material, Rick?

Next time add "Muslim terrorists", "abortion" and "socialism" together in a single sentence. That will certainly help to get your base to start frothing at the mouth again.

Typical TB; just gotta trot out some old, disproven tripe to justify the prejudicial behavior of somebody they agree with. You can't stand on a rubber leg, Rick. Abortion does not cause cancer. I wonder if a tendency to speak idiotic, misleading statements is a cause of taking up TB politics or a result of it.

No, no it's not you moron, IT'S UP TO THE DONORS, without our money there is no Susan G. Komen ANYTHING.

No ribbons, no grants, no runs, no walks and no 6 figure salaries.

The last thing Komen needs right now is more advice from another right wing zealot. That's what got them in trouble in the first place.

Go home, your kid needs a father and the country doesn't need your "wisdom".

Santorum is a sick lying, pervert. When you have nothing credible to say, Santorum does what desperate Republicans do best-lies through his teeth. His lies are so huge they are mind boggling.

What is just a sick is there are gullible people that believe the lies he throws around. Maybe these gullible followers are also as sexually perverted as Santorum--anyone that obsess 24/7 over what happens in other peoples bedrooms is mentally ill. Santorums man on dog sex? Puleese!

Thank GOD Pennsylvania saw what a self absorbed liar he was and kicked his sorry a$$ to the curb in double digit numbers.

How about: Muslim terrorists are funding forced abortions on Christian White women in order to create a new socialist, marxist caliphate world order where all white babies will be killed on stacks of burning Bibles while illegal immigrants force Christian teens into premarital sex by giving them drugs.

I think that covers it all. Betcha Sanitarium uses it.

He's not just right wing, he is rabidly right wing.

I think Rick knows he is not going to be the nominee, but if Romney is nominated they will probably force him to take on a right wing candidate for vice president. I wonder if that's his current game plan, to position himself as the vice presidential candidate.

The abortion–breast cancer hypothesis has been the subject of extensive scientific inquiry, and the scientific community has concluded that abortion does not cause breast cancer. This consensus is supported by major medical bodies,[5] including the World Health Organization,[6]the U.S. National Cancer Institute,[7][8] the American Cancer Society,[9] the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists,[10] and theRoyal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.[11]

That's funny Ricky, both the American Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute clearly state on their websites that there is no credible research that shows a link between abortion and cancer.

"but that's for private organizations like Susan G. Komen to make that decision,"

Actually, it is for people like me who have been active in The "Race for the Cure" for twenty years to make that decision. You see, when Komen decided to go all fundie on us, we started a protest movement here in Philadelphia against them. We organized a "send your shirts back" campaign, and threatened to deluge the SGK office with the twenty years worth of swag we have accumulated supporting that fraud of an organization.

Sorry Ricky, half of America, and more than half of all women still think abortion should be safe and legal. You dark age fundie jesusban neanderthals don't have as much sway as you might think.

I am glad your daughter is feeling better. Nothing worse than a sick kid in the hospital. I hope she is recovering.

Oops wait there is one thing worse- your uneducated, far right wingnuterry that does a great DISservice to people who may actually listen to you. Komen doesn't actually do research, they help fund it. Komen doesn't actually do breast exams or mammo's, they help fund those that do.

That said the decision by Komen to drink your coolaid is a sad one that will affect many daughters- or sister or mothers or aunts or anyone else that is faced with trying to get some health care in a nasty uncaring world.

This is a campaign to be President of the United States. Who is suppose to have the best interests of ALL american's at heart. You sir- do not deserve one more dollar, one more campaign ad or any more attention by any american.

Please give up the campaign. Go home to your sick child.

I wonder....does anyone know how to find out if Rick has government health care?

I see him always at the debates with that 'smirk', cocky little smile, like he knows something the rest of us don't know. The man, for being a self-labeled Christian, is such a hypocrite. I am sure it is his wife that does the home-schooling, as his knowledge is sadly lacking.

My question about government healthcare; if these Congressmen all have government healthcare paid for by our tax dollars, they can shut their mouths about who is paying what for me. Get the Congressmen out of our lives!! What a bunch of sickos to keep talking about womens procedures. I can't believe any of these right wing radicals will garner a vote from any female. I wish all of you a 'peniledectomy.'

Are our Congressmen covered forever after they leave office? I am getting at the point he made to a lady that was asking about the high price of drugs for her sick daughter and he made the stupid statement, if you buy your kids $900 electronics, don't complain about the drug companies. It made me wonder, he has seven children and one with medical issues; how does he afford all the health bills?

As I understand it they can elect to continue to be covered after they leave office, but their insurance covers only 70% of the cost. I'm not sure if they have to pay more for their premiums, like COBRA, or not.

Although I found this as well, "Health care costs are billed to the individual at an inter-agency reimbursement rate established by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB)." Whatever that means...

It's kind of amazing how little I can find on this specific topic... although I found a ton on other retirement benefits, like pension, social security, etc.

That's because it's a secret. If the general public knew all the perks they get for the amount of days they show up for work, they would go bonkers.

The Republican Congressman/Senators want to cut the federal employees to the bone and put them out of a job.

I say they are also federal employees-that actually have done -0- this past year, and they should be put out of a job first..

    They deserve it.

Rick the Dick. Man, I hate that guy. He has the brain of a goat if he thinks that there could be any chance ever that he could win a presidential election...

No wonder he is losing to Newt and Mittens.

And you gotta be really off the radar to lose to those two.
