Oregon, GOP Governor Candidate, Chris Dudley: 'I Don't Know' If Global Warming Is Man-Made

Like Christine O'Donnell and other know-nothing Tea Party candidates, Chris Dudley — the Republican nominee for Oregon's governor — doesn't know and doesn't care if global warming is caused by fossil fuel pollution. Toeing the party line, Dudley opposes the Western Climate Initiative global warming agreement as a "cap-tax-trade" system that would "do damage to the economy and job creation." He even bashed a weatherization initiative as a boondoggle. "Climate change is probably caused by a variety of factors," Dudley said in a September interview with the Oregonian, "but that debate is beside the point." In a gubernatorial debate on September 30, Dudley finally admitted he doesn't know if pollution is causing global warming:

My thought on global warming is this: that global warming exists, man contributes to it, how much, I don't know. I don't know how much is man made and how much is natural.

And since he "doesn't know", let's do nothing... And better still, let's continue doing exactly the same things we've always done. More drilling for oil (even though it's going to run out eventually), more dumping crap into the air... because even though we're on the brink of self-destruction (in a whole bunch of different ways), doing something useful might "damage the (status quo) economy".

It's much better to wait until we've exhausted all natural resources and don't have the time or resources to dump the tons of money we'd need into infrastructure changes to accommodate those changes. In other words, "Screw you, American people!"

[Insert quote from from Ronald Reagan and make reference to "God"... then applause from his GOP Sheeple in the audience]

"Thank you... thank you very much!"

Better Careful

I suspect he knows what he's paid to know, and nothing more. I'm not being sarcastic, either. I truly believe these folks only allow into their consciousness that which first passes an ideology or sentiment test. A bit of intellectual humility is a threat; the idea that there is something larger or greater than ourselves, some kind of reality that we must keep an open mind to, and which we must give intellectual credit to when it is revealed, well, that sort of intellectual humility and open mind will play havoc on those with an ideology to push.

This fellow gets money for believing certain things. Donors and voters line up for him when he behaves the right way. Hey, it's a living.

I suspect you're right. You'd have to be a true sociopath to know that you're not only screwing everyone else, but, in effect, yourself.

Self-delusion seems to be the best way to foist what you WANT to believe on everyone else...

Then he truly is a fumb ducker! Saving money at the expense of corporate profit, reducing energy consumption and creating more efficient homes for the benefit of their owners (mostly elderly in my area) OH MY>>>

I think 1984 has come 26 years late, I had hoped it would never arrive : - (

Ozark Mountain Sage

Having lived in Oregon for a number of years before I came to my senses and moved back to my beloved Ozark Mountains I will tell you that Chris Dudley will go down in defeat big time.
